HOMEMADE PIZZA

We have what I would call a tradition in our house which is when we have pizza, then we have homemade pizza and everyone gets to prepare their own pizza. I have also been mad enough to do it when the kids have play dates!  I guess the tradition started when my husband and I were invited to a pizza party when we lived in Florida.

What makes it even the more interesting this time is that we are still waiting for our shipment to arrive from the UK, so what was I thinking!!!!  Picture this: rolling the dough out with a can of olive oil spray; eating off paper plates and using plastic cutlery.

For the dough I mix bread flour, semolina, water, salt, dried yeast and sugar.  I tend to omit the semolina and increase the bread flour as I don’t always have semonlina in my cupboards.  I only make half the dough recipe as we all prefer thin crusts so we can make quite a few pizzas with that, including having plenty of left overs.

The tomato sauce is homemade too and is made up of garlic fried in olive oil, with tinned tomatoes, a couple of fresh tomatoes and plenty of seasoning.  I think the key to the tomato sauce is to make it as early as one can during the day and let it cook down until quite thick.

The best topping I have is garlic sprinkled over the tomato sauce with the cheese and then when the pizza is ready sprinkling a little olive oil over with some shredded fresh basil.  The kids will have ham, pineapple.

The best part of this meal is that there is always left overs which can either go in the freezer for another day or be used for packed lunches the next day, and of course the kids love it.

ENGLISH COOK ABROAD

‘ENGLISH COOK ABROAD’ is a blog about my love of cooking and the experiences of cooking and adapting various recipes.

Not all the same ingredients are available worldwide so I intend to experiment my English and family recipes with the equivalent ingredients that I can source in the US and documenting the outcome.

I, myself, started to enjoy cooking from an early age and still find a fascination for food this day. I enjoy cooking various new recipes and adapting them to my ideas. My husband will tell you that once he has returned from either a business trip or a business meal, the first things that I ask him is what the food was like and what he ate.

I have had the good fortune of living in various parts of the world including Zimbabwe, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the Untied States Of America. My true home is Zimbabwe where I was brought up. Sadly though I have not been back there for a number of years.

I would like this to be an  interactive blog so I would like people to try my recipes but also share their recipes and how they adapted them.

Another aim of this blog is for me to learn how to cook different cuisines and turning the outcomes into a series of hosted events where friends and family can come and try my results. The results and feedback will be posted on my blog.
